W Cockburn - Tailor circa 1910
This shop is now Flora's Kitchen (formerly Falconer's Butchers and latterly
Clark's Butchers)
The four gentlemen in the centre of the picture were
all tailors who came up each summer from Glasgow
to service the demand for tailoring from the estates,
for the gentry, their gamekeepers and guests.
It's an extraordinary comment on just one aspect
of the vast amount of work which the Victorian
and Edwardian fashion for the Highlands brought
to the area.
picture by kind permission of Mrs Sylvia Maclean
whose father is pictured on the left.
