If you're new to
Newtonmore ....
first - welcome - we hope you'll become an
active member of an active community where everyone tries to help each
other, and get things done
You may feel apprehensive
about 'fitting in' - or 'upsetting the locals' - don't worry - everyone is
entitled to do their own thing and if you're open and friendly towards
your neighbours, you'll find they're equally open and friendly to you.
Of
course Newtonmore has strong traditions, especially in the sport of Shinty
- and in the way the village has maintained it's identity - so it's
probably not a smart move to try to change the world overnight - but if
you think about it, that's equally true wherever you are. Newtonmore
people are very friendly and will always be happy to point you in the
right direction if you need help.
You'll find the
Community
Directory will give you lots of information and contact points - and a
good place to start 'in person' is to call in at the Tourist Information and Resource Centre (in Newtonmore Craft Centre on
Main Street) where you'll find Dave Fallows waiting to
give you a hand with whatever information you need. Another good place to
find out about what's going on and where everything is would be The Post
Office, where Graeme Irvine will help you out if he's not snowed under
with a pension day! The Library is also a good starting point - though
it's not open every day - see the directory (above) for opening hours.
In the meantime, explore the
web site and you'll discover lots of information from what do do to eating
out, history to highland games.
