Badenoch and Strathspey
Many locations throughout Badenoch and Strathspey were used in the shooting of 'Monarch', but the majority of the filming was done around Loch Laggan, and the village of Laggan. Glenbogle house itself is in real life Ardverikie House, situated in its own beautiful wooded grounds on the southern shores of Loch Laggan. Ardverikie can be seen across the loch from the main Newtonmore to Fort William Road. The house is very much private property, and neither the house nor its grounds are normally open to the public, access being by a strictly private road - PLEASE do not invade the privacy of the owners. Ardverikie is a wonderful building said to have as many windows as there are days in the year, and once the prospective purchase of Queen Victoria, who visited twice before eventually settling on Balmoral. A copy of a painting of Ardverikie executed by Queen Victoria herself can be seen in the Clan Macpherson Museum in Newtonmore. The original is in Holyrood House in Edinburgh.

New locations used in series 4 include the Blythswood Trust Charity Shop and area around the war memorial (shown in epsode 1 of series four), the car park of the Glen Hotel, the Antique Shop, The house next to the antique shop, and the side entrance to the Craig Mhor Hotel. Series five will also feature scenes at the Lodge Hotel

From series 3 (and 4) - The Gentlemen's Hairdresser - located in a conservatory adjacent to the Main's Hotel at the junction at the south end of Newtonmore, and The Glenbogle tearooms - in real life, the left hand window of the Clan Macpherson Museum in Newtonmore

These five pictures are from series 4 -
above, left and right - Hamish Clark enjoys a break whilst filming at the Glen Hotel
centre right - 'The Screen Machine' - the mobile cinema featured in an episode, at the Glen Hotel
below left - filming at The Craig Mhor

glenbogle station
At the other end of the strath, Broomhill Station, on the section of the Strathspey Steam Railway between Boat of Garten and Grantown, which is currently being restored, was used as the setting for Glenbogle Station (featured early on in episode 1)
McLintock's - Kincraig Village Stores
Here, filming is in progress in a scene from the election from episode 7. The actual location is Kincraig Village Stores, suitably renamed as J F McLintock
MacKechnie's - Laggan Stores This shot features MacKechnie's Stores - actually the Laggan Community Shop - as the logo on the gable end  betrays...
katrina's cottage

katrina's cottage, laggan and haflinger ponies

These two shots are at the location for Katrina's cottage - actually a ruined cottage on the single track road from Laggan to the Corrieyairick Pass, just a half mile or so out from Laggan. The bottom view shows the cottage as seen from the road, whilst the top view shows the front of the cottage as made up for the filming. The ponies belong to Haflinger Ponies, who operate pony trekking just outside Laggan, so you can take a trek on a pony used in the series!
Finally, this shot shows part of the gardens at Ardverikie (Glenbogle House), where Molly (Susan Hampshire) spends her time whiling away the hours in between plotting to keep her son Archie at Glenbogle

More information about other locations used in filming can be found on the Monarch Country website
