THE MILITARY ROADS OF GENERAL
WADE
- RALIA TO KINGUSSIE
The section of General Wade's military road from
Perth to Inverness which runs from Raliabeag, just outside Newtonmore to Ruthven, near
Kingussie is one of the few well preserved parts of the route. Much of the rest of the
route was so well chosen that it has subsequently been built directly over by more modern
roads, but the building of the Spey Bridge at Newtonmore, to obviate the need for a ferry
between Ruthven and Kingussie has left most of this section intact. Details of the walk
along part of this route can be found in the Newtonmore 'Walks'
section of the visitor guide.

above Laggan on the Corrieyairick Pass
