LOCH PITYOULISH AND LOCH GARTEN
This short tour takes you along some of the back roads to the east of Aviemore, with the opportunity for some extra activities thrown in...

Loch Pityoulish

Take any of the routes to Aviemore (old A9 is best) and turn right, up the road to the ski area. At Coylumbridge, turn left onto the B970 and follow this road until you come to Loch Pityoulish on your right - very photogenic in almost any conditions.

Continue on the B970 towards Loch Garten  (you will  see the signs for a turn off to your right to the Loch) and look out for the signs to the Ospreys - At the right time of year (May onwards), you can see the Ospreys at the nest, through powerful telescopes provided in the hide - watch them bringing in fish for their young - a magnificent sight...

Coming back to the B970, carry on until you reach Nethy Bridge, then take the road up to the A939 (left turn in Nethy Bridge), crossing the now much bigger River Spey at Broomhill, where, if you have a couple of hours to spare, you can hop on a steam train at Broomhill station (used as Glen Bogle Station in Monarch of the Glen), and  take a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway, to Aviemore and back. Then turn left onto the A939 and return home, perhaps stopping off at the Speyside Heather Centre (half a mile along the road, on your right) on your way.
