SHOPPING - FACILITIES
FOR THE DISABLED
Most shops in Newtonmore present
few or minor difficulties for the disabled - shops are listed below, with a summary for
each of any problems and/or special arrangements : problems are shown in red
Main Supply -
small step at door
- door has automatic closer -
plenty of room inside - ok for visually impaired
Co-op
-
now revamped and extended, so that disabled access is now possible throughout
the shop, but the aisles are far too often blocked by
special offer bins and clutter. The door is normally left open and there is no step.
If the door is closed, there is a bell outside to ring for assistance.
Craft Centre
- no step, easy door, access to all of the shop despite
being well stocked - ok problems for those with visual impairment - staff always
willing to help with any items that may be out of reach.
Access
through to the cafe and gallery sections directly from the main shop is
by three steps due to height differences, but there is an alternative
access via the side of the shop to a back door with ramped access. The
cafe has lots of room and the gallery is fully accessible
Fruit Shop - no step, easy door, good space inside for chairs - all of
the shop accessible.
Gallery -
see craft centre
Post Office -
step at door, tight entrance, so assistance probably
needed, but ok inside, though limited space - ok
for visually impaired.
Tuck Shop -
door has automatic closer, but staff will always help - sufficient room to reach counter, and staff
will always accommodate wheelchairs for seating at tables when required.
