EATING OUT - FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED

Many cafes, restaurants and hotels in Newtonmore present few or minor difficulties for the disabled - they are listed below, with a summary for each of any problems and/or special arrangements : problems are shown in red

Balavil Hotel - bar meals - very awkward steps at entrance and difficult doors, so assistance needed, but ok inside and assistance gladly given. The hotel has a lift to the upper floor

Braeriach Hotel - bar meals & restaurant - short and difficult high step at entrance and awkward doors, so assistance needed, but ok inside

Chef's Grill/The Diner - cafe/restaurant - ramped access, easy doors, but tables very awkward for chairs as seating positions are fixed - wheelchairs have to go onto the end of a table, but there is space for this at some tables

Capercaillie - cafe / restaurant - no step and easy door - a little cramped in cafe area, but staff will help - adequate space in restaurant area

The Garden Cafe - wheelchair access is via the side entrance to the craft centre and gallery - there are steps from the front shop due to height differences - but side entrance is ramped and easy access. There is lots of room in the cafe and chairs / tables are fully moveable to accommodate whatever is required

Glen Hotel - bar meals/restaurant - high steps at entrance and extremely awkward doors with short right angle turn between them and step at the second door - completely impossible without assistance - restaurant area has sufficient room but bar meal area can be difficult if busy as most tables are too close together to allow a wheelchair to pass through.

Lodge Hotel - bar meals/restaurant - excellent ramped access and easy doors (though driveway is gravel) lots of space inside in both bar meals and restaurant areas.

The Pantry - coffee shop/snacks - no step, easy door, seriously limited space inside, but staff will assist

The Tuck Shop - cafe/family restaurant - no step, door has automatic closer, limited space, but staff will always make room for a chair whenever possible

Waltzing Waters - coffee loft - upstairs - impossible for wheelchairs and not recommended for those with visual impairment
