Nestling between the Monadhliath and Cairngorm mountain ranges lies the attractive village of Newtonmore in the Scottish Highlands. Now part of the new Cairngorms National Park, this area of outstanding beauty has an abundance of lochs and mountains and an ever changing panorama. The village of Newtonmore is situated at the junction of the A9, the main road from central Scotland, and the A86 to the west and is an ideal central location for anyone wishing to tour this majestic country. 

Our area, Badenoch and Strathspey, was the location for the BBC TV series 'Monarch of the Glen' - filming of the seventh series ended in July 2005.

With prices ranging from just £160 to a maximum of £310 per cottage per week, Croft Holidays is delighted to offer you the choice of enjoying your holiday in one of three newly converted Steading Cottages.  These cottages, in Strone, are around 10 minutes walk from the amenities in Newtonmore - which has retained the character of a traditional village of the Scottish Highlands. Croft Holidays are committed to providing you with unlimited flexibility, and you are welcome to arrive any day of the week, and stay as long as you wish. Enquiries from individuals or groups of up to 9 people are welcome.

Guests regularly comment on the stunning views across the valley of the Spey, and how they enjoy watching the birds and abundant wildlife from the windows. 
Many enthuse about the numerous walks or cycle rides they have enjoyed which start right outside the front door! Others have discovered the delights of cross country skiing in the fields during winter breaks and the idyllic Allt Laraidh waterfalls (left), to be found just 300m from Steading Cottages, are ideal for cooling off on one of our very hot Highland days! 

One of the areas most beautiful walks, "The Wild Cat Trail", is now fully way-marked, and can be joined at a point just 200m from Croft Holiday's accommodation. This lovely trail is suitable for all standards and ages, and the 10 Km can, if you wish, be undertaken in six easy sections. The whole area is great for outdoor sports with many lovely walks, climbs, bike rides and ski runs. The Cottages have purpose built drying rooms, washing machines and lockable bike and ski storage. Information is supplied on routes for walks and bike rides.

Croft Holidays is under the personal management of Mary Mackenzie who lives on a croft in Strone and enjoys meeting with her guests. The Mackenzie family and their ancestors, have lived and worked in the Strone area for many years. The crofts in Strone have suckler cow herds and hill sheep flocks which roam to over 3000 feet in the Monadhliaths behind the cottages. Depending on the time of year you come to stay you will see various activities taking place on the crofts, eg gathering the sheep for clipping or dipping etc.  Mary runs the self catering and is very interested in local history and the families who live in the area. Part of the croft adjacent to Steading Cottages is set aside for a conservation project to support wild birds (seen in the photograph (right) taken from the Steading).  

Barn and Loft Cottages are no smoking. Stable Cottage is available for those who wish to smoke.
